Measurement of 83Y life and side-feeding times using the Doppler Shift attenuation method

High spin states of 85Y were populated using the reaction 58Ni( 32 S, alpha 3p) 85Y at 135 MeV. The GAMMASPHERE and MICROBALL arrays were used to obtain clean gamma-gamma lineshapes to be analyzed by the Doppler Shift Attenuation Method. Lifetimes were determined from experimental lineshapes measured at 35°, 53° ,127° and 145° whenever possible. Side-feeding times were also determinated by comparing the line shapes gated with transitions above and below the state under study. Transition quadrupole moments Qt inferred from the lifetimes and the rigid rotor model axially deformed resulted in values around ~2 eb .
